Cecil D. Andrus Leadership Award for Sustainability and Conservation
In 2009, Sustainable Northwest awarded Lava Lake its Cecil D. Andrus Leadership Award for Sustainability and Conservation, for its commitment to the well-being of people and the environment, and its vision for renewed and sustaining relationships between humans, wildlife and the land.
Bureau of Land Management Rangeland Stewardship Award
In 2009, the Bureau of Land Management awarded Lava Lake its national award for Rangeland Stewardship. The award was for Lava Lake’s efforts in enhancing sagebrush, aspen, and riparian habitat on its grazing allotments and for generally improving rangeland conditions in a manner that shows true dedication to the principles of rangeland stewardship.
National Award for Outstanding Achievement in Rangeland Management, United States Forest Service
The USFS awarded Lava Lake its National Award for Outstanding Achievement in Rangeland Management in 2009, for its achievements in the areas of ecosystem health, grazing management, multiple benefits to people, effective public service, developing partnerships, and providing scientific and technical assistance.
Heroes for Wildlife Award, Defenders of Wildlife (2007)
In 2007, Defenders for Wildlife awarded Mike Stevens, president of Lava Lake Land and Livestock, their Heroes for Wildlife Award, for Lava Lake’s work in pioneering practices that promote coexistence between predators and livestock. Excellence in Conservation Award, Sawtooth National Forest (2006)
In 2006, Lava Lake received the Excellence in Conservation Award from the Sawtooth National Forest.
Regional Forester’s Award for Natural Resources Stewardship, Intermountain Region
In 2006, the Intermountain Region of the USFS awarded Lava Lake its regional forester’s award for outstanding range management and conservation practices.
Special Recognition Award, The Wildlife Society
In 2005, the Wildlife Society awarded Lava Lake a Special Recognition Award for conservation and restoration of native ecosystems at a landscape scale.
